Katandra means ‘song of the birds’

Katandra is a word from the Gurangai language spoken by the traditional people of the Northern Beaches area in Sydney. It's a word ideally suited to our beautiful South Coast environs… and a perfect name for a womens a cappella choir!

Katandra Berry was established in July 2017 and Katandra Kiama began in May 2018. Each group is conducted by experienced choral director, Antoinette Raynal.

Katandra’s focus is on supporting women both within the choir and in the greater community. Proceeds from all our performances are donated to women’s initiatives in our area.

To date Katandra have performed concerts in Berry, Camberwarra Winery, sung Carols at Stocklands Mall in Nowra and Kiama Carols in the park, performed at the Jazz Brunch in Jamberoo, held the fabulous 2018 THE BIG SWING at the Gerringong Town Hall and participated in the magnificent Songs of Joy concert in Kiama, 2019.

Proceeds from all our very successful concerts have gone to the Childrens Medical Research Institute, Salt Ministry, Red Cross and Homestead for Hope, directly benefitting local women and children in need.

During the first harrowing year of Covid we were determined to keep together and managed to do this through a variety of rehearsals via Zoom, as well as real life meetings (per health orders) in several beautiful - sometimes very, very cold! - outdoor locations across the region. Thankfully, we are back now to our regular rehearsal rooms.

Please feel free to join us, or to attend our next performance.
